There is an extremely important responsibility laid on every art practitioner shoulders to address his or her place within visual culture, a field fully penetrated by its market. They must look at visual culture with a level if criticism, if not skepticism. To be successful they must be willing to engage with the market, but not be ignorant of its order. That said, it would be rash to dismiss the market as a negative influence, as it is merely a reflection of modern taste, inseparable from our contemporary art culture.
